QuiBids
Unauthorized credit card charge and questionable "auctions"

Internet & Web

I'm a faithful user of eBay to find deals on everything from backpacks for the kids to books to household items. I've purchased many times, both via winning auctions and the buy now deals. I was never ripped off. Along comes QuiBids. They advertise on a Web site I belong to and I noticed the deals they say their customers have won at auction. They tout that they are more like a "real" auction.

So, I go to their Web site and decided to register. I enter my personal info (name, address, etc). I am then asked to provide credit card information. They say it will be used to pay for items won. I saw nothing indicating that I was actually making any kind of purchase by hitting the "Register" button. So, I go to my "page" and I notice there are over 100 bids in the upper right hand corner. I know I didn't purchase any, yet there it is. They did say they were giving me three free bids. Unfortunately, I did not realize one had to purchase the bids. If this had been made clear in the information I read before registering, I would not have done so.

Regardless, most Web sites give a consumer the opportunity to cancel a transaction by requesting a confirmation of the purchase. If that had been offered, again, I would have canceled because I do not agree with this type of business whereby you have to pay for every bid. A consumer could in fact go broke bidding on something on this site because as I found out, the auctions never seem to end! I do not believe their advertising claims that consumers have won expensive items for pennies. I truly believe these "two guys from OK" are scamming hundreds if not thousands of consumers into bidding on possibly non-existent items.

I do not think they are legitimate and I'm going to do some further investigating on them to see what's up. I'm a single parent who works hard for her money and I do not like being ripped off by anyone. I sent them an email (since they provide no toll free or business number - red flag) stating that I wanted my money returned to my card. I also deactivated my account. Let's see if they are men of integrity or yet another internet scheme to rip people off.
