BEWARE—Cancel Membership does not mean they cancel consumer ripoff Internet

I signed up for the free dialup trial. Before the trial was to expire I called Compuserve on 12/19/03 to cancel my membership, as I did not like the service. The service rep was very hesitant to submit the cancel, but after a few minutes I insisted. I wrote down the cancellation number on a pad of paper, however I neglected to write down the reps name.

One week later I see on my credit card statement (online) a charge from Compuserve. I called up 1-800-848-8000 to verify that I had cancelled, but the Compuserve customer service rep had no record of my cancellation on the 19th, or even that I called in at all! When I told the rep the cancellation number... Yep... You guessed it - "We have no record of that."

Beware when you cancel! Get a fax/email of your cancellation, or anything that can confirm it immediately! Always write down the name and contact number of the rep who supposedly cancelled your membership.
