C4 Engine rip off bad business practices

Recently I was looking for some good 3D software to use for my own personal use and in class. After doing some looking around I came up on C4 Engine made by Terathon Software... After doing some research before deciding on buying or not I came up on this bit of information about the company selling this software..

Apparently the makers of this software took another companies material in the past and were using it as their own and that just makes me think to myself — if they are able to take another companies copyright materials so easy than one has to wonder where the software they are selling now comes from.
