Fake shoes, dishonest customs declaration, and shipping returns must go to CHINA!

We missed the warning signs that this was not a legitimate company and quickly ordered the Nike Air Jordan's our son wanted, using PayPal. PayPal does not back-up quality, just guarantees the actual shipment. When the package arrived we were dismayed to see that it had been shipped from China with the dishonest declaration on the customs form that it was a $40 gift. Once inspecting the shoes we saw that these were look alike, completely plastic and vinyl shoes, not real Nike Air Jordan's. We emailed the company for return information (per their return policy) and found that it had to be return shipped to China! $45 later, the shoes are on their way back since we decided to gamble for the refund as opposed to the $20 settlement and keep the shoes offer they gave us. Is there no recourse for such transactions? We thought using PayPal was safer than credit cards even, but I think we would have had a better chance for a refund with our credit card (claiming fraud) than with PayPal.
