Collection claim for Charter Communications

Afni has sent a collection notice to me claiming that they have a debt owed to Charter Communications from 2004. When stating that the final billwas paid to Charter at that time they claim that Charter states other wise. It is now 2009 and I have requested a copy of the documentation to show this debt, they say they do not have this but I should settle for the amount that they have offered. I feel that they and Charter are ripping people off and should be stopped from this deceptive practice.
