Employment Crossing, Project Management Crossing: BEWARE

Internet & Web

Yesterday while perusing another job board on the internet, I ran across a job that was posted on projectmanagementcrossing.com, which I later found is an affiliate of employmentcrossing.com.

I visited the site and decided to give it a try since the site did appear to list jobs that I had not seen on the other job boards I had been visiting.

Red Flag #1: I noticed that it was not a free site and to cancel, you have to call a customer service number.

Red Flag #2: After signing up, the very first job that I selected was an expired posting! (If this company is fully staffed to search and confirm listings to display on their board, why on earth would any of the postings ever be stale?)

Red Flag #3 (and the hair that broke the camel's back): They provided users with an option to notify their company if there is a problem with any of the listings. For example, if a listing has expired, they want you as the user to tell them about it. So basically, the user is helping them do a job that we thought they were responsible for doing since we paid them for doing it. I guess our subscription fees do not cover daily validation of listings.

I decided today (after only 1 day of service) to give them a call and cancel.

Red Flag #4: The customer service rep had what sounded like an Indian accent. Per a previous report on this company by a former employee, their call center is indeed in India.

Anyway..."Kevin" informed me that I would receive an email from Paypal regarding the cancellation. What I found odd is that "Kevin" never asked me why I wanted to cancel. He just took my name and said Ok.

My saving grace... PayPal. Because I was not sure if this company was on the up and up (I certainly should have checked ripoff first), I used my Paypal account to pay. I found out AFTER talking to "Kevin" that I really did not need to call employmentcrossing. I could have simply cancelled the subscription out on PayPal, which is what I ended up doing. I'm wondering now if the reason "Kevin" did not inquire further about my cancellation is because by my use of PayPal, this company could not run a game of continued charges on my account as could happen if I had supplied a credit or debit card (not saying that this would have happened but based upon the other reports on the ripoff site, sounds like it was a possibility).

I did not provide a resume to them thank goodness but I did give them my primary email address. Let's see how much spam I will get going forward.

For my profession, the majority of the listings on the crossing site were also listed on the "free" sites. This said, I guess this site would be helpful if you just want the convenience of going to one site to search for a job.

Just Beware. For a "pay to search" board, the listings should NEVER be stale. That is not the case with employment crossing.
