Free Credit Report
Is not "free"!

Free Credit Report is an internet scam. The consumer is led to believe that they are entitled to one "free" credit report annually that will include an individual's credit score from each of the three major credit reporting agencies. The trap is sprung when the consumer enters a credit card number to cover the $1.00 shipping charge for a "free" CD that can supposedly be returned for no additional charge.

The CD will either be shipped too late to be returned "free of charge", or in my own case, will not be shipped at all. Freecreditreport.com will then bill the credit card account for $29.95 month after month in spite of the fact that no goods or services have been provided to the consumer. To make matters even worse, the credit card company will take the side of the scam "merchant" and continue to accept these bogus "transactions" even after they have been disputed by the consumer.

The description of the Free Credit Report "transaction" that is billed to the credit card account is identified on the credit card monthly statement as "AP9PRIVACYMATTERS123".

I have found that the three major credit reporting agencies will collect credit information on individuals that is false, one-sided or out-dated and then sell it secretly to other companies. The consumer has no recourse but to pay for
inaccurate credit information that can be used against them by unscrupulous businesses. This whole system of credit agencies collecting one-sided secret information on consumers and then soliciting money under the pretense of sharing it for "no cost" stinks to high heaven.
