Online Rebate Rip-off

Well in the end I wasn't ripped off, but easily could have been by this deceptive rebate offer. Long story short, I made on online purchase that came with a substantial rebate which enticed me to buy the item.

Unfortunately I did not read the fine (very fine) print that indicated that in order to use the rebate I must purchase a $1000.00 notebook computer. I IMMEDIATELY (60 seconds after I confirmed the purchase) cancelled the purchase through the online customer service menus. Three days later I received an email from customer service indicating that they would "attempt" to stop my shipment but could not promise it. The next day my package had arrived. No problem right? The online return policy stated that unless specified online purchases could be returned to retail locations as long as you supplied the transfer slip from the box and the return was within 14 days.

Well I did just that, and on my first return attempt was told that since the transfer slip (convieniently) did not have my credit card information, the best they could do was supply me with a store credit (with which I still would have been out of $100). I refused, went home and went back to the website with the intention of printing out online confirmation (but the website did not provide a printable format with my credit card information!).

Luckily I had created a print screen. Bmp file when I initially bought the item that I printed off and finally was able to return the item (after long haggles with a manager). So basically they sell you something that they know good and well that you will be unable to return for anything less than "store credit", unless you go through extreme measures to protect yourself (like I luckily did).
