After placing several free ads for my business on various Internet sites, I was contacted by e-mail by somebody calling her/himself Nicole Giavesse (e-mail account nicolegiavesse@gmail.com). S/he offered to give me some tips on SEO (search engine optimization) and expressed the hope that she could help me more in exchange for my services.

As a friendly "tip to get started, " she sent me to directoryexclsive.com where I could get a "free" trial listing and a "free" business card holder for signing up. As it turns out, the small print terms and conditions include your commitment to pay them $950 to advertise your business for a couple of years. Naturally I was unaware of this when I signed up. As the other report/complaint on this company says, the word FREE is blaring at the top of the page while the other part is tiny and at the bottom, underneath all the blank fields to fill out. No credit card information was requested.

Today, a couple of weeks after I signed up for this "service, " the "free" business card holder arrived in the mail, along with an invoice requesting $950 payment. I immediately tried to contact the company to cancel my company listing. Of course there is no phone number, only a communication box on the website to fill out, which I did. I also e-mailed them using the address I had from my previous ad verification with them.

Here are what you should do if you received a phone call from a collector:

1. Do NOT under any circumstances send these scammers money.
2. Tell him/her that you are not going to pay for the invoice, and let this scammer know that you are going to take the actions outlined in the step 3 and
3. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission by visiting the the FTC website (http://www.ftc. Gov) or call 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
4. Report the scam to your local Better Business Bureau and your state Attorney General.

Remember folks, you are NOT obliged to pay for services that you never requested or ordered. Last, your credit rating will NEVER be damaged/ruined just because of not paying this business directory scam.
