Beware of Stolen Phones, Sales on E-Bay

Internet & Web

I recently purchased what was advertised as a brand new Motorola cell phone on E-bay, sold by RGM Telecoms. The phone was advertised as not having a SIM card, which struck me as odd, but not enough to be weary of this vendor. I was charged $225.

When I received the phone, I took it to a Sprint Store to purchase a SIM card and activate the phone. Sprint refused to activate the phone, stating the phone was connected with fraudulent activity. I was further told that Nextel phones are NEVER sold without a SIM card. A closer look at the box did show a serial number for a SIM card that should have accompanied the phone. What happened to it?

I called Sprint customer service for more information. I was told that the phone was stolen.

I tried calling the phone number listed on RGM's E-Bay page. It was listed as their customer service line. No one answered, and the voice mail greeting was the generic greeting that comes with new phones, not identifying them.

Beware of this company.
