TigerDirect, Systemax Dishonest and fraudulent rebate practices

In July, I purchased a build-your-own system from TigerDirect with the promise of over $200 in rebates. I dutifully complied with all of the requirements for mailing in the info after having submitted the info online at onRebate.com.

It's now December, and I still haven't received my rebates. The online status indicates that I have received my payment, but my PayPal account is still showing no activity from them.

I called one customer service rep on November 14th, and he said that their systems had had a glitch in August, and that he would escalate my payment and I should expect it in "5 to 7 business days." Nothing.

I called back on November 28th and escalated immediately to the manager, Nikki Thomas (nikki. Thomas@onrebate.com), and she said that the money would be in my account by Thursday of that week, December 1st. Nothing. She gave me her "direct line" 866-310-8074, and I called it on December 1,4, 5,6, and 7th. Left multiple voicemail messages with my phone number and my rebate codes. Nothing.

I called back on December 8th, and got her on the phone live, and I discovered that she does NOT check voicemail. Or she lied to me directly — either way, she agreed yesterday to have the check cut and mailed to me, and that she would personally call me when it happened. Nothing. She also said that she would fax a copy of the check to me. Nothing.

I have located a consumer complaints on them here: that had a few other direct phone numbers, including the personal cell phone number for Marsha Tate, whom I called on Saturday morning at 8:30am. She said that she will look into my rebate on Monday and call me personally (evidently, she knows that her personal cell number is on consumer complaints, and she has since turned off her phone).

By the way, through my research, I have discovered that both TigerDirect and OnRebate are sister companies, owned by a public company called Systemax. Some of the onRebate executive team came from TigerDirect.com (Anthony Jones, for example, onrebate.com/about. Aspx).

I know that inPhonic had to pay out a settlement recently to deal with deceptive rebate practices, so it is possible to get this sort of thing to the courts.

It is now 12/13, and I have still not received my rebate. I have filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney general and I would urge anyone else who is having this problem to do the same. I am also filing with the FTC. And I am going to contact an attorney this week.
