Ripoff - dishonest billing practices and meager results

I have read another entry on roommateclick.com that stated the writer got no results. One of the reasons for this may be that to respond to roommateclick.com email you have to pay. There may be many ads out there that are using the free service, as I was, and who are not willing to pay to respond.

I received an email from a potential match, and decided to respond, so I paid the $5.95 one-day fee to let this gentleman know I could not room with him; just a courtesy. I was shocked to discover the next day I was being charged $39.95 for a one month membership I had not requested and would continue to have money taken out of my card unless I asked roommateclick.com to stop.

When I asked about this policy I received an email stating that I had been notified in the "Terms of Service" boilerplate located on the web pages that this is something rommmateclick.com does unless I specifically cancel the $5.95 full membership within 24 hours. This is known as a disincentive. It is sleazy at best.

It should be noted that much of what roommateclick.com does for a price craigslist.org does for free, and in some cases better. Roommateclick.com makes you pay for a map that shows you the general area you will be renting in (i.E. Zip code). Craigslist.org shows the exact location you will be renting from in your choice of Google or Yahoo! Maps, for free.

Roommateclick.com claims to filter matches, but I asked for roommates between the ages of 25-55 and got every age imaginable from 18 on up. Craigslist.org will filter for price and location for free and while they don't filter your search for age, apparently neither does roommateclick.com. Finally, with carigslist.org, email to your potential roommate is free.

I have learned my lesson and will be using craigslist.org from now on. Hopefully I can save someone else the same aggravation I went through.
