PC Club
Ripoff, purchase not refunded after 2 months!

Internet & Web

I want to report that after doing business for the first time with PC Club in Phoenix, I returned an item for a full refund the day after purchase, and it has been 2 months and I am yet to receive my refund. I will never deal with these folks again and you should be wary as well.

The business is PC Club - Ahwatukee located at 4923 E Chandler Blvd. Ste 301. They are a small computer parts company; they belong to a national chain - pcclub.com.

I purchased 3 memory sticks from them on July 11, for a total purchase price of $84.30. I made the purchase by check. They indicated that the memory could be returned within 7 days if it was not compatible with my PC. After taking the memory home and installing it in my PC, my PC did not recognize the memory; therefore, it was incompatible.

I returned the memory the next day (July 12) for a full refund. The refund was authorized, but I was told since the purchase was made via check, that the refund would be made by check through the mail, and I should receive the refund in 7-10 days. I agreed to this arrangement. I verified with my bank that the check cleared on July 14 and I have a bank statement that corroborates that.

Two weeks went by and I had not received a refund. I called the local store at 480-598-3558 to inquire about the status of my refund. The person I spoke to indicated he would contact their national accounting department. Later that day, the store clerk called me back and said that the check would be processed and I should expect to receive it in 2-3 days by mail.

Another week went by; still no refund. I called the local store once again at 480-598-3558 to inquire about the status of my refund. The store clerk took my number down and said he would call me back. He called me back later that day and told me the refund was held up because their national accounting department did not have my address. Mind you, my address was on the check. Anyway, I provided my address and hung up. Later the same day, the clerk called me back and confirmed that the accounting department had my address and that I should have my refund check in 2-3 days.

On Tuesday, August 30, after realizing that I had still not received my refund check, I decided to pay a visit to the local store to inquire about the status of my refund. The clerk verified via the store's computer records that I was due a refund, but he was not able to give me the refund as the manager was out so the clerk took my number down and told me he would have the manager call me. I did not receive a call back.

I visited the store again on Friday, September 2, to inquire about the status. Again, the manager was out, but I was able to speak to the Asst Manager, N. Lovett, and he took my number down and told me he would have the manager call me. I asked Mr. Lovett for the phone number to the accounting department so that I could call and check the status for myself. He gave me a phone number of 626-839-8080.

On Tuesday, September 6, I called 626-839-8080 to check on my refund status. I was told that the Regional Manager, Kevin, who covers Phoenix, would call me back. Kevin, Regional Manager, called me back later that day from 661-827-8881. I indicated to him that I had been waiting almost 2 months for a simple refund. I also told him this was the first purchase I ever made from this store and that they had not made a very good impression by making me wait so long to get my money back. Kevin agreed that this was unacceptable and he said he would have the local store manager call me.

Later on Tuesday, Chris, the local store manager called me back and indicated that he had tried to call me on Friday, September 2, but something went wrong and he couldn't get through for some reason. I asked about the status of my refund. Chris indicated that he had been authorized to give me a cash refund from his drawer and he would call me back as soon as a cash-paying customer gave him enough cash to refund my $84.30.

I called Chris on Wednesday to find out if my refund was ready. He said to me, "Didn't I tell you I would call you when I had enough cash to refund you?" I was taken aback and I exclaimed to him that he should realize that it has been almost 2 months PC Club has held on to my money and I had reason to inquire about the status of MY money. Chris softened his tone and said he understood, but that they hadn't gotten enough cash yet from a paying customer because it has been a slow week for them. Chris said he would call me as soon as he has enough cash to refund my $84.30.

It is now Friday, September 9, at 3:00pm PST, and I have not received a call back and I still have not received any refund or any other consideration for my excessive inconvenience. I have my PC Club purchase and refund receipts as well as bank statement available if needed.
