Lied about the personal training and wont cancel contract

About a year ago I went to LA Fitness to sign up for their gym. As I was there I was urged to meet with Mike the personal trainer. I did and he talked me into getting some personal training classes. He also stated that I could stop at any time.in December I had a surgery and was unable to attend the gym for months so I called to cancel my membership. To my surprise I was told that I couldn't do that I need it top keep paying almost $300 a month. This was not what their trainer Mike had told me.

Now they won't give me my money back or cancel my membership
