City pain is in your... And your pocketbook! Ripoffs

Health & Medicine

In October of 1999 I made an appointment with Putnam City Dental Group, the only dentist office in my area that would let me make payments (turned out to be a high-interest credit account) since I did not have insurance but I was in dire need of a root canal. So I had the root canal performed by a regular dentist who had only been in practice (I found out later) for less than 3 months. Her name was Dr Jennifer Cannon. The procedure cost me over $1000 and though I transferred the bill to a lower interest rate card I am still making payments on it today.

I returned several times after the root canal complaining of pain in the crowned tooth. The first few times they said that the crown was too big and I was biting down and impacting it into the gums which was causing the discomfort. So they ground it flatter... And days later... Flatter... And flatter... Until it no longer looks like a tooth and I still had the pain. So I went back and they told me it couldn't be anything else so I must be imagining the pain or else it is another tooth altogether.

In August I moved to Washington state and got a full time job with insurance. I went to the Dentist almost immediately because the pain was really getting to me. So they x-rayed the tooth and told me that I would most certainly need to have the tooth re-root canaled as it was not done properly the first time. My dentist sent me to a specialist to fix the problem and though I had insurance this time it still cost me an arm and a leg. The endodontist just drilled through the crown and re-filled it with amalgam when he was done so now it is REALLY ugly. Otherwise my tooth is fine now and after the endodontist finished with me I had him send a copy of my before and after x-rays and a report of what he had to do to Putnam City Dental Group. A few weeks later I called their office to see if they recieved the file and I was referred to the office manager Elizabeth. She told me that they had in fact recieved the file and that she would speak with a higher-up (can't remember her position) about it and get back to me. I proceeded to call every few weeks to check status until Elizabeth finally gave me the number for the woman she was getting in touch with. So I called her and left messages every few weeks until she answered me and told me she would speak with the owner and get back with me. The owner's name is Pat Steffens. So I continued to call every few weeks with no response so my guess is they have blown me off. Only once during this entire ordeal has anyone returned my phone call.
