Wouldn't stop charging

My son went to a school that was an hour away and I decided to sign up at the local gym so I could go while he attended. He was abruptly kicked out and I didn't have the opportunity to go to that area again until five months later. I tried to cancel over the phone but they wouldn't let me, they just kept charging and withdrawing funds from my bank account while we weren't using the membership.By the time we got there, they had already charged over $480 and they said they were going to charge another month after we cancel. They have no sympathy and the member service representative even admitted that they rely on ripping off their customers for a large portion of their income.
