Walgreens
Bottom Line Systems, BLS Keeping overpayments of terminally/chronically ill customers

Health & Medicine

Let me give you a little background information before I tell you what's going on behind the scenes with one of America's biggest retailers and the amoral slime that they contract with. Basically, in addition to their retail outlets, Walgreens also has a home care/home infusion service for terminally ill and chronically ill patients.

What most people don't know is that they contract with a company called Bottom Line Systems (BLS) to do some sidework for them. BLS mainly collects any payment shortages from insurance companies on behalf of Walgreens. They also does their collections work and review Walgreens financial records for overpayments (from insurance companies or patients) and adjusts them off their books.

In other words, instead of doing to honorable (and legal) thing by refunding overpayments to the patients, BLS is basically zeroing them out on Walgreens' books and keeping a "finder's fee" percentage of that amount.
