Dr. Thomas R. Dickson
Illegally distributed Rx Ibuprofen 800, did three UNNECESSARY root canals, a total fraud

Health & Medicine

Where to begin with my horrific experience with this dentist? I was referred to Dr. Dickson by a well-meaning coworker. Dr. Dickson seemed to be good at first; he scheduled me for one root canal on a particularly sensitive tooth. The secretary informed me that upon the date of the root canal, I would owe $120. I went in, and after the procedure, Dr. Dickson informed me that while I was numb, he'd "snuck in" and done an additional root canal on an adjacent tooth that I apparently "had a problem with." I'd never had any issues with this tooth. To make matter worse, he told me he wouldn't call in any pain medication, but instead handed me a suspicious looking package of Rx Ibuprofen 800's. His exact words were, "I'm not a pharmacy, so I really shouldn't be distributing this, but here you go." I went home, and felt more pain than I have ever before with ANY dental work (and I have an enamel disease - I know dental pain!). When I went to pay the priorly assessed $120, I was shocked to see that the bill was now $430 - from the additional root canal Dr. Dickson had "snuck in." I was unable to pay that amount, and the secretary informed me that they could not take monthly payments. I went home devastated and in dire pain from TWO root canals in one sitting. I called the dental office and requested something stronger than the illegally distributed ibuprofen 800's he'd given me. Dr. Dickson called back, and after pulling my file, ripped me a new one for the various doctors and dentists I'd seen over the past few months due to complications from oral nerve damage.By the end of the conversation, I felt like a criminal, and I was balling my eyes out. About a week later, I was still having residual pain due to the root canals he'd done. I called him several times, requesting help and advice. The one phone call he answered, he rudely replied, "I'm really busy right now. I'll call you back." He never did. I almost went to the ER that night from irreconcilable pain. The following week, I sought the advice of a different dentist, who stood in shock as I told him about the three root canals Dr. Dickson had done in two weeks. This dentist was speechless. After examining prior x-rays, he informed me that there was NO need for any of the three root canals - at all. This new dentist was completely alarmed, and extremely concerned that Dr. Dickson had done so many root canals by the seat of his pants. Luckily, this new dentist is phenomenal (Dr. Russell Lewis) and I am in good hands. Dr. Dickson is the biggest crook I know - and he is, quite frankly, one of the rudest, most arrogant people I've ever met. He completely took advantage of my situation, and slapped me with a $400 bill. Stay FAR, FAR away from this dentist - he was NO idea what he's doing.
