Montifiore Medical Center Billing Department Incorrectly billed

On April 29 I had a seazure and asked ambulance to take me to Veterans because I did not have a medical plan, instead I ws taken to Montifiore. When at Montifiore I also made this request and was ignored. I was there 3 days and was never approached by a social worker to get my information regarding medical insurance or fill out document for medicaid since I had no insurance. When the bills started coming in I started to pay them slowly until I paid all the bills I had received and I was told that my balance was paid. Just this January, more than a year and a half later I get a letter from montifiore billing department saying that I owe over $16,000 for services rendered for the 3 days I was at the hospital. I sent them the receipts of what I had paid and also explained regarding the procedures that did not follow during my stay. A couple of days ago I get a letter from a collection agency requesting I pay the $16,000. Montifiore Hospital billing department has a bad habit of trying to cover their mistakes. To add insult to injury, I went once recently to the emergency room and a clerk came to me to get my medical insurance card which I now have coverage and got the information. A week two weeks later I get a bill for the emergency room visit from which I am covered. After calling them and complaining they said that it had not been billed to my insurance company. I told them then why am I being billed if you have not billed the insurance company yet.
