Unfair billing practices, gym tries to collect after I cancelled and moved out of state

I called the gym to cancel in December. I had to leave a message. I then called the billing company after I received a bill the next month. They informed me I needed to contact the gym directly. I did again. I left messages and then finally got an employee when I called. They said to mail a letter by regular mail asking to cancel along with my membership card. I did mail the letter and my SSN because I could not find my card at the time. I then mailed another letter in February along with the card itself (after I found it) to ensure all was handled. After that no bills, nothing. I assumed all was well. I fulfilled my two year contract, I cancelled within the guidelines who would expect differently?

Now months later these vultures are trying to collect for over $700 for time that the contract was cancelled, I was out of state, and never attending their gym. I hope this helps many people make their decision on joining this gym. I have now had to contact the Better Business Bureau due to their unfair billing practices. I have made a dozen calls with no answer or return call. Now I will probably have to pursue this even further.

We just survived Hurricane Ike here in Texas. We are having to leave our house due to the extensive damage and mold growing. Dealing with this unethical company is the last thing I need!
