DME Lied about insurance filing

CPAPnow, INC is a durable medical equipment company based in Caldwell, ID.in December of they came out to set my husband up with his new CPAP machine. Since we had met our out-of-pocket maximum for the year, we asked if we could have CPAPnow bill our insurance to PURCHASE the machine (as opposed to renting it monthly) so we could avoid paying anymore out of pocket. Their rep that set us up said "Sure, we can do that!"

Several months later, because it takes the insurance so long to get around to claims and issue EOBs, we found out that we were being billed monthly because they had in fact sent the claim through as a rental. When I called their office regarding this, I was informed that NO CPAP machine will be 'purchased' by the insurance company for the policy holder or covered members. The reasoning is that DME companies get back a machine that has already been paid for and re-sell it, getting paid twice.

Would have been nice to know about that up front.

Of course, the company claims that they told us all of this upfront in the first place and they're not responsible in any way, we should know how our policy works. Well, excuse me for thinking you were honest and trustworthy, Mr. Oh-I-put-through-these-kinds-of-claims-all-the-time.

Meanwhile, we've put in a call to our insurance company to verify what we've been told.
