CHBA / Consumer Health Benefits Association ripoff/can't get them on the phone/medical providers never heard of them

I was contacted by a man regarding my search for health insurance. He said that his offer was not health insurance but that it was better and the price was very low, (If something is too good to be true, it probably is). His pitch was very slick. He had me go to their website to check them out. Everything looked great.

I asked for examples of benefits and he said that if I went to the hospital, the charges would amount to something like 80/20, same as Blue Cross/Blue Shield but with no deductable. How could I go wrong?

I signed up on a Wednesday night, paid with a credit card ($259.85 initial charge) for my wife and myself. It was posted on Thursday and the following Tuesday I received my paperwork packet. I immediately read it and discovered that the sales pitch was totally different from what I had just read. There literature said that they would negotiate with the hospital to reduce the charges UP TO 80%. It could also be up to 1%.

I called the company and got stonewalled by someone named Cindy. I asked for her last name and was told that the company policy was to not give out last names. Finally, I got in touch with a "supervisor" named Wendy who, I have to admit, was very smooth. She got me back on track and made me feel better about my choice of health plans. That was until I checked them out on the internet.

Normally, there website would come up first because of the number of hits but complaint came up number one. That sent up a red flag. I immediately called my bank and got them to put a stop on the charge. B of A does that for their customers when they've been scammed.
