Smart Choice Health Plans - ripoff, fraudulent billing, lied about refund, frequently changed addresses El Paso Texas

I signed up with National Associstion of Private Enterprise in October. This was a supplemental medical plan, not insurance. I found it online and checked it out using the Better Business Bureau online site. They didn't have any complaints filed against them.

Shortly after registering and having been billed on my husband's credit card, I received notice and different information. They were now going by the name Smart Choice Health Plans. I have many confusing facts and figures, too numerous to list here.

I never used the plan, called them many times, trying to cancel my enrollment. I was assured I would get a refund. No, I didn't believe them. At that time, we were cheated out of over $700.00

They were originally based in El Paso, Texas. I contacted the Better Business Bureau there. They weren't too agressive in their initial search. But, I persisted in calling them. They finally dug deeper. They found many other similar complaints against this company.

After weeks of waiting I found out that the BBB could do nothing. The company was contacted but didn't respond. I then contacted the state Attorney General's office. No help there either. I was told it could take up to three years for any news.

I pursued and found that the company now had moved to Santa Ana, California. I contacted the BBB there as well as the Attorney General's office. I found no help or much interest there either.

I even tried calling local lawyers in both El Paso and Santa Ana, to no avail. I don't expect to ever see my $700 ever again. I feel really foolish and embarrassed that this happened to me. I am one of those people who watches usacomplaints. Coms on the news.

I couldn't afford to lose that money. If I could afford decent medical coverage I wouldn't have chosen to use a supplemental medical plan. I am sorry that no one took my efforts and information more seriously.

I hate to think that as I sit here, more innocent people are being cheated by this same company, different address and phone number, of course. Maybe someone will read this and realize that you always don't get what you see.

Please don't be fooled like I was. Do your homework, investigate, be less trusting. Be smart.
