Health & Medicine

I was enrolled successfully in the LA Weight Loss program when I began to develop digestive problems.

I have seen numerous doctors, and I learned that I am in need of surgery. The surgeon I am seeing stated that he wanted to try and avoid surgery if at all possible because there are always potential risks associated with general anesthesia.

To help alleviate, and hopefully eliminate, my severe abdominal pain I no longer can eat wheat or refined sugar products. (all of which are part of the LA Weight Loss program.)

My doctor wrote a letter to LA Weight Loss stating that she wanted me to discontinue the program as we are going to take a different approach to my weight loss issues in hopes of providing me comfort.

When I presented the letter to LA Weight Loss they told me they would only refund my "purchased weeks" and that I had to keep the LA Lite Bars that I did not even have in my possession (they were purchased in advance when I started the program and are at the LA Weight Loss Center I visited) and that I CANNOT eat.

There are over $1000 worth of LA Lite bars that I can NEVER EAT and that I have never even seen. I was told if I bought all of my bars at the beginning of the program I would get a better price. So the bars are paid for and I have no use for them.

For those unfamiliar with the program, if you buy the bars in advance you get a "bulk rate". You then take a couple of boxes home with you each week and you eat 2 bars a day. (Bars come in packages of 7 or 14) They have all of your prepaid bars at the center and give them to you as needed. So, I have never taken possession of them. There ARE NOT boxes that are specific to me, they just give me what ever they have in stock at the time. My purchases bars are, in essence, just a number in their computer.

They did a good job of neglecting to inform me that the bars are non-refundable EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE A DOCTOR'S LETTER stating that you need to quit the program. This was NEVER AT ONE TIME mentioned to me when I enrolled, not was it on any form that I signed to enroll. They had a small sign in a 8"x10" frame, hidden in a corner, that most people would never even see. There is no signed paper work stating that I can not get a refund for the bars, even with a doctor's letter.

I am not putting down the program (I was very successful on it), I am reporting the shady business practices of the company. I do believe they sell the program deceptively and care more about numbers than the people who are turning their hopes of a new life over to them. I could totally understand not getting a refund if I just quit for no reason or did not follow the program, BUT I HAVE A DOCTOR'S LETTER. This is absolutely absurd and speaks very little of their so called professionalism.

The total cost of my bars before the bulk rate discount is $1344. I believe with the discount the value is still around $900 more or less. I WANT MY MONEY BACK, they can keep the bars that they have never even given me!!!
