On December 16th, I attended an initial meeting with Suzie at Quick Weight Loss Center 436 Sawdust Road in The Woodlands, TX at. At this meeting, Suzie told me nothing about the program but guaranteed I would lose 40 pounds in 18 weeks. Any of my questions about the program were answered with, you will learn that at your Nutrition Class.

I was given the following and told they were part of the program cost and were required for the program and for weight loss: one box of protein bars (7 bars, 10.7 oz), one large bottle of weight loss enhancers (200 capsules), one small bottle of minerals (40 caplets) attached to the large bottle, a bottle of vitamins (30), and a bottle of Carb Blocker dietary supplement (90 tablets). I also received several pages of paperwork and was asked to sign my name approximately 5 times on various pieces of paperwork in order to hear the rest about the program. I was given a three day starter diet that entailed eating unlimited amounts of only one meat, one orange a day, and unlimited raw greens.

Then I was instructed to return to the center after three days on the initial diet to obtain directions for the remainder of the program. I was strongly pressured at this initial meeting to sign up for another $1355.50 of products and supplements. I was charged $549.63 for one month of supplements, one box of product, and 52 weeks of meetings. I falsely assumed that if I did not like the actual plan (to be described at a later date), I would be free to pay for only the products I had received.

Upon completing one and one half days on the initial diet, I believe I passed a kidney stone. I passed blood infused urine for approximately three hours and finally two clot covered tiny rocks. I was unsure what had happened, but the pain of a severe bladder infection had passed. I called a friend whose husband had recently had kidney stones and was assured that my symptoms corresponded with his. I feel relatively sure that this is what happened. I read up on kidney stones and found they could be caused by excess protein consumption. While I do not believe I formed kidney stones overnight on the Quick Weight Loss Center diet, I do believe that the self-described high protein diet would exacerbate a pre-existing condition. My doctor confirmed this belief and advised a more moderate diet.

The next day, Tuesday December 29, out of curiosity I attended the follow-up course which I had already scheduled. At this course I was pressured again to sign up for the $1400 product and supplement package and shown how much cheaper the program was at this discount price. On the radio, the program is advertised as costing less than $10 a week.

However, today, having decided completely against following this program, I find myself out some $549.63 with nothing but 4 bottles of pills, a box of nutrition bars, and a stack of paperwork. I am willing to pay for the services I have received, which by my estimates total:

$15.00 box of supplements (nutrition bars)
$38.00 bottle of Carb Blocker dietary supplements
$135.00 bottle of Herbal Balance Platinum diet pills/Minerals
$12.00 bottle of vitamins
$200.00
plus one week (1 hour actual time) counseling at $10.00

Grand Total: $210.00

After calling the Quick Weight Loss Center and describing my circumstances to Suzie, I was told that no refunds could be made without corporate discussing the situation with my doctor. I explained to her that I was unwilling to release my medical records and was told that in that case I had no recourse. I called the credit-card company, and found I could file a dispute. I requested the paperwork for that process. However, I still want other consumers to be warned of what seems to me a fraudulent and deceptive business practice.
