Evolutions Salon and Day Spa
Does not pay employees at the agreed rate or at all!

Health & Medicine

I began working at Evolutions (for Judy) as an Esthetician in February. Both of the interviews had gone fine and I was feeling really good about getting my first job in the beauty industry. Little did I know, it was going to be a huge mistake on my part.

During my interview, we had agreed that I would be paid at an hourly rate of $8.00 per hour until I had enough of a client base to begin getting paid on commission. However, she did not mention to me that she had a 2 week hold back policy. This meant that I was not paid until 2 weeks after the close of the pay period. I soon began to understand why when I would pick up the phone and it would be another creditor wanting money.

In the beginning, I thought that it was just a small salon, but then no one else showed up. I later found out that the year before on Christmas Eve, she fired her entire staff to "start fresh and go in a new direction". None of the employees or clients were given any notice. Many of the clients were so frustrated with her and the way that she runs her business, that they would not come back to the salon to receive services from me.

In all this, I was doing a few brow waxes and a facial here and there, but nothing substantial enough to pay the rent or renovations on the house I had recently purchased. On top of that, she even told a brazilian wax client right in front of me that she did not need to pay. The girl did not bother to tip, either on a $50 service that had taken me the better part of the hour AND I'd stayed late that evening to do the service. I also found out that when someone would ask her to split a tip with me off their credit card, she was not splitting it evenly as the customer had requested.

I began having to pull money out of a trust account that was based in California. All of my bills were late and I had already pre-paid for my honeymoon the very next month and it was non-refundable. She began asking me to work later and later and more days, but I was still not getting paid. At the beginning of March, I had had enough of the games and theft of my money and time. I came in to work on a Friday and told her that I could not handle it and that I was done.

I was supposed to have had a check in my mailbox when I came back after my honeymoon, but I did not get paid for over a year after I quit. I sent letters to her repeatedly giving her the address to send the checks to and copies of the time cards she'd had me fill out. When I did finally receive the check in it was about $500.00 short.

I would not encourage anyone to work here or even give Judy your business. She is obnoxious, uses bad grammar and smokes in the salon (which is against State Cosmo. Board policies).
