I should have known better after all the problems I've had with Circuit City in the past, but this past weekend I went ahead and purchased a television from them, an RCA 32" TV. After paying for it, the salesclerk checks the warehouse and GUESS WHAT? They're completely sold out of the model I wanted.
"No problem, " he says. "We'll just order it and it will come in our shipment on Wednesday."
"Are you SURE it will be here Wednesday?" I asked him.
He assured me it would be. They get the shipments in from the distribution center on Wednesday and I could pick it up after 12 noon.
Today's Wednesday. I called the store and sat on hold for nine minutes before a clerk came on and told me that my television didn't come in. So I asked to speak to a manager.
Five minutes later I got a manager who said that the distribution center was completely out of the model television I wanted and didn't know when they would be getting any more in.
I asked what he could do for me. He offered me a Panasonic television for the same price. After doing extensive research on televisions for the last month, I had decided that I wanted an RCA and nothing else. That's why I purchased it in the first place. I asked if he had any 36" RCAs in stock and he said he had plenty of them. I told him that maybe he should offer me one of those 36" TVs for the same price as a 32" TV because his salespeople willfully took my money for a television that they knew they didn't have and knew they wouldn't be getting for a long while. He assured me that he could not up me to the next level, he'd lose his job for that. But he reiterated that I could have the Panasonic for the same price as the RCA. Which is just a good television as the RCA... Minus all the features that I wanted in the RCA.
I told him I'd get back with him on that.
I called Sears. They not only have the model I want but they have it in stock and they will match Circuit City's price to the penny. They are holding a television for me as I type this.
I am tired of Circuit City's lethargic attitudes toward its customers. I am tired of them busting their butts to make the sale and then not caring once the money's safely tucked inside the cash register.
And I am very tired of them jerking me around on everything I've ever bought from them.
I have finally learned my lesson.
