HP Pavilion dv6500 Notebook PC: Flawed by Design?

After a few months from its original purchase, the fan of my HP Pavilion dv6500 laptop began overheating so much so that I could not use it as a laptop that is, on top of my laps. Then its DVD player started acting up and died shortly thereafter. The battery also had a short 1-hour life from the very beginning instead of a 3-hour life advertized by HP and died completely after one year use.

I now use it only as an occasional typewriter and am wondering whether it was designed for this purpose at the outset.
