Otek Electronics, Inc
Scam site, buyer beware, online shopping fraud

Electronics and household app.

I've come across another site who appears to be a discount electronics dealer. The company address is http://otek-electronics.com.

Like the others I've seen in the past the web site looks professional, down to the product listings, and FAQ, Return & Shiping Policies.

The alarms went off when I read the payment options from the FAQ page which reads as follows: What payment methods do you accept? For the moment we only accept Western Union Money Transfer Service (Money in Minutes).

We had fraud problems in credit cards processing and we have lost more than US $25,000.00 in shipping items ordered with stolen credit cards and after delivery we had to return the funds to their honest possessors. That's why we no longer accept credit cards for orders.

The only solution for the moment is to receive the deposits through Western Union. You can still use your credit card for Western Union online payments HERE. We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding in this matter.

The other suspicious factor here is the minimum order requirement. And yet some more interesting facts...

1) The Hacker Safe logo sends you to a page directly from the Otek website which is bogus.

2) If you right click the logo you should get an error which is one way to tell if its authentic.

3) McAfee purchased Hacker Safe and I believe they no longer use the Hacker Safe logo, and instead use a McAfee logo.

4) A lookup of the Main Office address in Google Maps (Street View) shows no specific building, but a residential area in Alameda, CA., the other addressed appear to be bogus as well.

5) Whois records show IP address is from Malaysia and the site points to DNS servers for a previous site these scammers were using "NANCOELECTRONICS.com".

6) Nanco Electronics Inc. Is a real company located in Hayward, CA which sells Garage door products and does not own the domain NANCOELECTRONICS.com, I'm not sure they even have a website at all.

I hope this information helps keep someone from making an expensive mistake. Do your homework on any suspicious company before you make a transaction.

If they ask for Western Union, or Money Order as forms of payment they are most definitely a scam. It only took me about five minutes to find all of the above information on them...
