Toshiba Qosmio will do anything to keep you from getting your rebates

When I ordered a Toshiba Qosmio F40 custom-built laptop directly from Toshiba in December the pricing showed that I would be eligible for several rebates on my order. The rebates were for several Toshiba accessories include a printer, case, and mouse, totalling about $175. After ordering I was never notified on how to apply for those rebates, although I had already paid for the accessories. I contacted Toshiba (only had to wait on hold for 10 minutes) and they sent me a weblink where I could print the rebate forms (shouldn't they have just sent that to me in the first place?) I submitted the forms, completed the requirements, and double checked that everything was done correctly... Mailed them in and waited.

They tell you it will be 6-8 weeks... 8 weeks later I get my rebate check for the printer ($90). On the 9th week I get a letter from Toshiba Web Rebates saying that my rebate submission was denied because it did not include a valid UPC barcode. It supplied a phone number and an email address through which I could contact them with questions.

I called the number, but the operator told me it was an invalid number.

I emailed them with my question, situation, ID #, etc. To this I received an auto-response ("A representative will respond to your email shortly. If you don't hear from us in 2 days please call the number provided on your letter.")

A week goes by with no response, so I try the number again. This time it rings, I go through a few phone menus, and get put on hold for an hour. I give up, call again, hold for another hour. Nothing. I email again, and nothing.

Obviously their rebate program is not meant to actually give you your rebates. I think they figure most people will forget about that rebate check after 6-8 weeks.
