Rebate ripoff Phony rebate

I purchased a monitor that was advertised with a $99.00 rebate. I waited 3 months and then called and asked where my rebate was. I was told that because I had submitted the on-line receipt and not the physical receipt that I would not be given the rebate. I asked if I could send it in. I was told it was too late. As a result, I no longer buy products: from X2gen; from MacMall; or with rebates. I am not interested in being made to jump through hoops.
