Ripoff overcharged state sales tax: Described Sony camera as NEW but not in original Sony factory box

On April 21, I ordered 1 Sony Cybershot DSCP 7.2MP w/3x Opt Zoom OEM digital Camera (NEW) from Avalon Gadgets on the internet at a total price of $224.85, plus shipping $20.11. Order Total:$244.96. My credit card was charged $274.36 on April 25, 5 days prior to Avalon shipping the camera. The camera was shipped on May 1. UPS delivered the camera on May 3. On May 4, I e-mailed Avalon to question the additional $29.40 charge to my account, as well as to question them about the camera NOT being shipped in Sony's original factory box. (I know what the original Sony box is, as I have purchased 2 of those same model cameras recently from sources other than Avalon). The camera operates OK, but I question whether it is factory "NEW" as advertised since it was not shipped in Sony's original factory box.

Avalon immediately e-mailed me back stating they had added IN sales tax, and that the camera was shipped in an OEM factory box. I e-mailed them and asked that they credit my account for $14.70, the amount of the IN sales tax overcharge.in sales tax rate is 6%, $14.70, not $29.40, which is 12%, not 6%. No response. I e-mailed them the second time. No response. I e-mailed them the third time. Still no response.

The IN Sales Tax Division has no record of Avalon Gadgets filing or paying IN sales tax.

These guys are crooks and should be investigated by the Better Business Bureau and the various state sales tax divisions where they have shipped merchandise and charged sales tax, but have not remitted the tax they collected. They can NOT be reached by phone and they do NOT answer e-mails. Avalon should be put out of business and the principals prosecuted.
