I purchased a Canon 35mm camera from PhotoAlley.com using my credit card. I placed the order by phone, not the computer. After about 1 week, the camera arrived but from a different business than where I ordered the camera from.
PhotoAlley.com claims that they do not charge for shipping or taxes if the order is more than $100.00 dollars, and my purchase totaled $241.98. When the camera arrived from a place which I had ever heard of before, Taaffee Photo, I was a little comfused since I placed the order with PhotoAlley.com. The invoice had the camera price as $229.98, two lithium batteries $12.00, and shipping $20.00. (Everything was right except for the shipping).
It was almost impossible to even find Taaffee Photo on the internet because it is spelled differently. It's actually Taafe Photo & Electronics and they do not even have a 1-800 number, so I know that I didn't place an order with them, nor do they even have any 35mm SLR cameras for sale if you go to their website. Seems funny to me that a business would send out an invoice with their name spelled wrong, especially when it's not even got their whole business name on it.
When I called PhotoAlley.com on 12/16 to try and make a change to my order, they said the order had already shipped. On 12/21 when I called them back - they said they did not have any record of this transaction, and that we had purchased the camera somewhere else. How is it that a business can have all of your order information, credit card number, address, and name but 4 days later, claim to not have ever heard of you, have the nerve to you a liar, and tell you that you did not purchase anything from them.
All we are really out is the $20.00 for shipping no big deal, it's the fact that they advertise on their website no shipping charges on orders over $100.00. I feel like this falls under the truth in advertising rule. These people are crooks!
