My sister graduated from IADT in 2009. Unbeknownst to the rest of her family, during the time she was at school, financial aid "advisors" talked her into over $52,000 worth of private loans. She thought that she was being responsible by taking care of the financial by herself (she did not have a co-signer for any of the loans), but at 20 years old, she did not understand the ramifications. I don't put any weight on the education they are peddling at the school, which is a for-profit school, as they handed out "A's" like candy. I have also talked to numerous adjunct teachers who admitted that they taught classes that they knew nothing about and just did it for the side-money.
While the education at IADT is poor, what I am most furious about are these Private loans, which can't be helped by anything the government puts together because they are "Private." Income-based Repayment Plan? That can help, as long as it's not a Private Loan. Federal Student Loan Consolidation? That can help, as long as it's not a Private Loan. Please don't let anyone you know take out any Private loans — it is not worth it and they will only go into debt. And it's not as if the financial aid people at the school tried to hit her here and there with a bunch of small loans: one loan was for $20K the other was for $28K.
I'm not saying that my sister is blameless, after all, she did sign the loans. But the people at IADT can be compared to snake-oil salemen — talking to her in circles, promising her big salaries when she graduated, telling her that if she left school because she couldn't pay for it, she would never find a job.
IADT is a horrible for-profit school. All they want is your money and will gladly take ALL that you have in addition to making deals with the devil (aka Sallie Mae) and have you pay back for the rest of your life.
