Ripoff, FRAUD, possibly stolen equipment, uses wrong address for judgments City

And all those times I just shook my head at all those unsuspecting people who were "taken in" by scams that I thought were so obvious... Well, now I know. Now I'm one of them too.

Today I was served a complaint summons.
Plaintiff: Northern Leasing Systems, Inc.
Place: New York City Civil Court.

Will I go? You bet.

Why? Well, because it's the principle. Plus, I really hate being scammed. Even if it does mean traveling more than 16 hours, coast to coast, and spending more than a few hundred dollars just to appear.

What really ticks me off: To have a company say that I have signed a "non-cancellable" contract—that even though I never received the equipment listed in the lease, I still "must pay." That even though I have been defrauded, I still "must pay."

They are relying on the idea that "it's too far to travel, too expensive" so that I will do nothing, and just give them a judgement against me. Or just cough up the money.

The interesting thing is... If they HAD sent me the equipment as listed in the contract, more than likely I wouldn't be typing in this web form. But they didn't. And in my mind and belief, if they don't hold up THEIR end of the contract, the contract is null and void. Period. Of course, Northern Leasing is telling me that I must pay, even if I never received the equipment listed in the lease!

I'd like to file a counter claim, and make it hurt. Anybody out there who can help with this? I need the legalese!

So—NYC here I come! Wonder what's on Broadway these days? And, does anyone know a reasonably good civil litigation attorney in NYC for contract fraud? I've already filed with the FTC and the Washington state Attorney General. Anyone else I'm leaving out?
