Ipoff/poor management

I was an employee for DeVry University in Orlando, Fl. My position was as an Admissions Advisor in the online department. My job was to market the various products, enroll students and follow up with them.

Some of the issues were being promised salaries and compensation that never materialized, horrible mismanagement, total disregard for employees and more.

I have never worked in a sweatshop but feel that DeVry falls into that category. Management changes shifts and hours at the drop of a hat with total disregard for any plans that you may have. If you politely mention that you had plans, had to pick up children, Dr. Appointment etc. You would be very unpolitely reminded that Florida is a right to work state and that anyone could be terminated without cause or reason.in other words, we make the rules, do as your told, shut up and get back to work and don't bother us with your insignificant needs or youw ill be fired.

Initally we were told that we only had to work one Saturday a month. Soon it was two and then 3. When a session was getting close to closing, it was now 4 Saturdays in a row! Good grief! Some of us have lives you know.

Overtime was also pushed on us even though DeVry does not pay overtime in traditional terms.in other words you won't get time and half, you won't even get straight time. You get something like half you base hourly rate.

It usually is less than $8 per hour for overtime. But. The more hours you work, the less you make. If you work 10 hours overtime (and DeVry sillpush you to work 10 hours overtime, the overtime base now drops to around $6/hr. If you work more, it drops to around $5/hr! The more you work, the less you make! Andif you refuse...? Florida is a right to work state...

The whole office is very political. Better leads and projects go to the people that management likes the best. It has very little to do with skill.in fact, DeVry usually picks on the people with superior sales skills.

Management will tell you they have an open door policy. However, whenever you go into their office with a question or suggestion, you get yelled at and then made a fool out of at the next meeting. It's a joke.

At the prehire, we were told that DeVry was lead rich. Once we started it was another thing. Leads were sparse and the better leads went to the company minions.

Some "special people" got laydowns, students who enrolled and paid their application fee online. The Admissions Advisor did nothing to earn this sale, was rewarded with a gift and then management made a big celebration out of it. These were also the people who got promoted. But to hear them present ont he phone, you would think they never got out of training 101!!

Benfits were so-so. There was no real career opportunity. Several 10 year veterans of DeVry left suddenly to move into other schools. And these were the people who said there were 100% DeVry for lifers.

There is also a lot of micro management by people who would never even qualify for management positions and those who are in management couldn't management a pool hall!

Many good people have quit in disgust. Others who were probably "over qualified" never even got in.

As someone who has b een in sales for a very long time, I understand getting referrals or PDs as described by DeVry and prospecting on my own. However, I have never seen a company that offers such piss poor leads as DeVry and has such a mundane and antiquated sale system.

The company minions and pigeons spend most of there day on the internet chatting with friends via emails, twitter, facebook and more and get away with it while on company time. Some take 2 hour lunches. On the other hand, if we were even 2 minutes late, we got a written warning.

It's a shame because I think DeVry has a great product. Great school. When the top brass come in from Illionois, it's like a totally different company. I really think that Ted and the gang should make an unexpected suprise visit here someday to see what really goes on!

And I think that when the director (DEAN) dresses up like a pregnant nun (see picture) that should tell you the mentality of the people who run this place.
