Deceptive and fraudulent lease practices

If you are reading this, you have probably been screwed already. My wife and I began a small take-out eatery in Holden, Maine, based on Brazilian food, in April '03. Ray "Bud" Sanville, a rep for LFG, got my wife in on this whopper by lying to her about the length of the lease-he claimed it was for a year-and didn't provide a copy of the lease. Since my wife was easily duped, having had no experience of such prehensile conmen in america, we now have to decide how to deal with this. We barely lasted a year in business-terrible location and most Mainers just aren't ready for Brazilian food yet...

I do know that there are attorneys in California, renowned for success at class-action lawsuits, that all of us should be looking into, rather that whining into a barrel like this. I plan on contacting a couple and will update here as I learn what alternatives we all have.
I would also recommend all of you do the research and find out what new businesses are getting going or have gotten under way and try to contact them to alert them to the various boilsuckers headed their way.

I for one plan on costing 'ol "Bud" Sanville quite a few commissions, leaving my name and number so he knows I was responsible.

I am also giving some thought to contacting the attorneys general in both Illinois and Maine (I'd say this needs to happen in ALL your home states, as well, folks!!!), to put this BS on their radars, too. One fellow wrote in that the BBB was woefully ineffectual and actually complicit in hiding the frauds, over time, with "memberships". Just get the word out. All these cockroaches, as you well know, cannot stand the harsh light of day. Transparency, transparency, transparency.
