Be Smart! Why pay twice as much for HALF the degree when your local community college offers a better program?

Education & Science

Dear Consumer,

I recently disassociated with Anthem College (Aurora, CO) location because of their lack of concern and respect for their paying attendees. During the 3 months I was there I earned 6.8 (NATIONALLY ACCREDITED) hours, paid $2502.56 and learned Nothing.

The professors I had at this location were lax in their agendas and often times didn't adhere to the class syllabus. Additional information (ie: handouts, diagrams, etc) were given out inconsistently and there were absolutely NO test reviews period. Tests are 150 plus questions on average, leaving the students to fend for themselves largely via extensive reading assignments. The phrase 'Unnecessarily Difficult' comes to mind.

The attitude and actions of the staff were extremely judgmental and non customer service oriented, in my opinion. I was put on hold for 20 plus minutes, disconnected, incorrectly transferred by the front desk. Most messages I left weren't returned, those that were only few in a timely fashion. Normally, I get a little more respect as a combat veteran, but these people were out to prove that I didn't deserve that. Yet, they were happy to deduct my Post 911. I was snobbed by the Dean of Student Affairs saying, "I'm your boss and you are my employee, and Im the only one that can write a recommendation letter for you." I just want an education, and last time I checked, employees dont PAY their bosses.

This is only one example of an attitude that is counterproductive in a learning environment. I also found the school to be over-processing about procedures, policies, and normal routines. For instance, (1) your student ID card needs to be worn around your neck at all times, and if you forget it they WILL send you home to retrieve it and MISS CLASS.? (2) the administration WILL pull you out of class to handle paperwork issues (sometimes important and sometimes not), once again leaving you to MISS CLASS. (3) working parents, they are EXTREMELY uncooperative with your scheduling needs and responsibilities. There is a strict attendance policy that if not adhered to, you will be dropped, money refunded, and required to pay an additional $50 re-registration fee.

I recommend you think twice! In my field of study (X-Ray Tech) they only offer a Limited Scope certification. (1) This program cost $15,000 approximately. The local community college offers the FULL SCOPE version (which almost doubles in salary) for HALF the price. (2) According to my research, the percentage of people who actually pass the board exam is about 76%, which isn't high enough for me to risk the $15,000 personally. (3) MOST of these degrees offered by this institution are bottom-tier, entry level degrees that average between minimum wage to $11/hr.

In the end, this is all my personal account and it doesn't matter to you what happened to me, it matters what happens to you. I say dont risk it.
