Ripoff unapproved credit card charge for membership of $96

I was charged $96 from MWI essentials on my credit card on 12/08/03. I didn't know who they were so I called, and called, and called the number lsited next to their name on my credit card statement. I never got through. All I got was a prerecorded message advising of a long wait time and suggesting I go to the website (www.dealpass.com).

I finally called the credit card company and filed a dispute claim. They gave me a telephone number to try (888-697-0719) and it worked! It was answered by Dennis (ID#16477) who agreed to cancel my membership without any discussion. We will see if they issue a refund!

The month before I got a similiar charge from an affiliate called Simple Escapes2 which I did call and did get a refund. At that time they said I had authorized membership in three other subsiduaries. I explained I did NOT.in investigating this I remember and have found the following:

I did agree to a $1 1-month trial membership in return for a $50 credit slip on gas. It took three weeks to get the info and it wasn't what was explained. I called and cancelled. When I initially enrolled, they asked if I wanted membership in some other companies. I said NO. Apparantently, they put thru charges for the others anyway. I also found that all refer you to www.dealpass.com as their website. This website is somehow connected to Gator.com and makes deals for their ads.

Hoepfully, enough people will complain and there will be a class action suit against MWI and Gator. Not let these shams go on. Until our politicians do something about the internet, we have to do our part.
