KSR&D Services ripoff She ran off with my money!

I belong to an online staffing group which posts work-at-home job opportunities for its members.in late April, when I became a member.

R&D Services was advertising a position on this group's website (Staffing Connections group on MSN). The listing stated that R&D had positions open for people to become independent contractors to do medical billing from home for R&D.in order to sign up as a biller, you had to pay a $100 REFUNDABLE deposit to R&D via Paypal. This was to cover the cost of software, training and certification and was to guarantee you work assignments through R&D.

I checked with the manager of my group as to the legitimacy of this program, and she told me that it was legit - she had worked with R&D's owner before and had put a deposit in herself to sign up for this position. On May 3, I sent in my payment to R&D through Paypal. I got my software, etc. And started my online training later that month.

Even before my training, my group was informed that the owner of R&D, Michelle Williams, was having problems b/c her husband had a heart condition and he was going in and out of the hospital. This caused delays in everyone's training and before I could complete my training, Michelle informed everyone in my group that she was going to FL on personal business and would continue training once she returned. Michelle has never come back.

On Aug. 4, I received a message posted to all the members of my staffing group that Michelle has apparently abandoned the business - she is not returning emails, R&D's website is down, phones disconnected and all mail is being returned unopened. I cannot get help through Paypal b/c it has been over 30 days since I sent my deposit to Michelle.

The BBB of Kansas cannot help b/c they can't get a hold of Michelle. I will be filing complaints with the AG's office in both KS and FL, but I don't know how well that will go. I have tried to find out what others in my group are doing, but so far, no one is responding to my posts. I'm sure I'll be chalking this one up to "a lesson well learned."
