SMC Specialty Merchandise Corp ripoff What happened to the 3 football field size warehouse (?) that appearently contains nothing. Merchandise was so cheesy that it wouldnt sell in a fleamarket

Yes, I too thought I would get rich riding the SMC wave to freedom. Only $25 per month. Until you cant make the sales to cover it because the "world class" merchandise was so cheesy that it wouldnt sell in a fleamarket.

My first order took 3 weeks to arrive and was missing 1 item (on back order). I finally managed to get another order and thought I would do the deal of ordering on the web-site. I checked 3 items, all of which were out of stock. I checked a few days later, still out of stock. I continued to check on these items for 3 weeks, every 2 to 3 days.

Then I became a little curious. I had my husband go through the "Big Catalog" and randomly pick items of veried prices and I checked the availablity of the items. We did this with 30 items and found 1 (!!) in stock.

This whole process took about 2 months, and of course that means I was past that all mighty 30 day trial... I called to cancel my membership and was put on hold for 20 mins (on my dime, of course).

Then was told that I hadnt made a payment last month and they intended to start collection process. I told them I had just recieved my credit card statement with their payment on the list. "Well I guess my computer hasnt updated that information yet." "But, " I say, "you took my money 3 weeks ago, according to my statement. Let me speak with your superviser." On hold for another 15 mins... Total phone time on this call... 62 mins.

Bottom line (?)... They continued to charge my credit card till I cancelled my card, Because the credit card company said they couldnt stop SMC from charging me due to contract blah, blah. Of course my credit is screwed for another 4 to 5 years because I stopped paying them by cancelling my card before they got the whole $500 out of me.

How can they continue to stay in business and do this to people over and over. Isnt there a Retail Trade Commission or something to come in and examine all their papers, billing, etc?

If you feel the need to get involved with SCM, Please just throw your money in the nearest lake, river or ocean. It will cost you less in the end.
