I have been a fingerhut customer for 6 years. Last Christmas I ordered all my Christmas gifts out of a catelog that offered deferred payments until May.
Previous to this order I had a balance of less than $150.00 and my monthly payment was only $7. I got a bill in January for a payment of almost $200.
When I called the company to tell them the payments were supposed to be deferred they said I had ordered out of a catalog that did not have deferred payments and I had to pay immediately.
The ONLY catalog I had was certainly a deferred payment catalog. I knew I was getting a large sum of money in April and I chose Fingerhut because of the deferred payments. I was planning on paying the entire bill off as soon as the deferrment was up and the bill was due.
I called them repeatedly to try and clear this up but all I got from them were letters and very rude phone calls demanding payment. I told them I would pay in May and that I should not have to pay the late fees, over limit fees caused by late fees, etc.
They turned me over to collections and my credit which I have been rebuilding painstakingly over the past 5 years now has gone downhill thanks to them. Now I no longer recieve anything from them but my credit is damaged and still shows an outstanding balance.
When I tried recently to contact them again to resolve this I could not get ahold of a human being. I called 411, I got the phone number listed on my credit report and the only numbers I get are automated systems. I cannot believe this company would make it so hard to resolve a mistake that was theirs in the first place. If a class action lawsuit is filed, COUNT ME IN!
