Magazine Source
A fraud - ripoff consumer by posing as other companies

Education & Science

When the Magazine Source called me, claiming to be another magazine company I had already paid in full, they offered me 6 more magazines at no additional cost. After repeatitive questioning, I thought I was actually getting more mags at no additional cost.

By "no additional cost" they meant "you keep paying what you already paid." They got me in two ways:
1.) By saying they were from "the company that sends out your magazines."
2.) Twisting their words so I believed I would not be charged anything.

The coversation went on for over half an hour, and I really thought I knew what was going on - I thought they were offering me the free magazines so I would renew with them when my first contract ran out. The thing is, the guy I was on the phone with was not from the company I thought he was from. He was from a seperate entity altogether.

My card expired a few months ago, so now the mag source calls me a few times a day, but I just can't bring myself to give them any info over the phone. I got tired of running in circular arguements (and their twisted logic) so I stopped answering the phone when "Out of Area" shows up on my caller ID, hoping they would send something in writing, and they haven't. The calls just come in more frequently now; they never leave a message.

I'm tempted to pick up the phone again, just for the entertainment factor (it's actually quite entertaining sometimes, especially if you get a real "live one" that really thinks I'm going to cooperate.

I emailed my story to a consumer advocate already, but if anyone has any suggestions (I live in CO, so if there is something I could do with the laws here...) please click the rebuttle box and let me know. I saw the post about getting a lawyer, but the laws are different here in CO.

Anyways, thanks for reading and letting me vent.
