Education & Science

As we all know, when you make a decision to return to school at the age of 29, it's
usually because you're tired of working dead end jobs, tired of being broke, and you have a family to support. So, it's not unusual to start college dead broke.

When I started Medix I was dead broke. But I decided that if a career was what I really wanted I needed to sacrifice to get it. After applying for financial aid I was told that i had a promisary payment of approx. $2000. I paid approximately $270 for 2 months and then my financial status changed tremendously. So, that's when the sacrificing came in. I sacrificed eating everyday, I sacrificed my car, and I moved to an extended stay lodge. After this I still didn't have enough money to continue paying for school.

I continued going to my classes, and I asked some of the other students in my class if they thought I would be put out of school for this. They all stated that they had promisary payments they never paid on and no one ever said anything to them.

So, i commenced to finishing the entire 9 month program and even scheduled my internships. 1 week before my internships were to start they came and got me out of class and told me that I wouldn't be able to do my internships or national registry until I pay the $1500 promisary payment. I told them that this was not fair because graduated or not I would still have to pay the money back and I stood a better chance of paying them if I graduated and got a better job. They refused me. After talking with a few other people in my class I found out that 2 other students were allowed to complete the program owing more than I did. I was told by one of the ladies in the office to write a note for the president telling him why I should be able to graduate. So, I did. And, he wouldn't approve it. As a matter of fact, I wrote 2 letters to 2 different people. And got turned down by both.

I attended this school in it's now 2008 and I'm still working a dead end job, still broke, and still unable to support my family and guess what?!? Medix is suing me for that promisary payment. Isn't that funny, I sacrificed so much and still ended up with a $8000 student loan and a $2000 promisary payment with out my emt certification.

But the good news is, I will be attending North Metro Tech in October taking the same thing but this time I got a grant.
