Dental Assisting Program is a Rip-Off

First off Tidewater Tech is designed to help adults looking for a career. I took the Dental Assisting program it is accredited by the American Dental Association. But you would not know that by the way the program is run.

First off:
Teachers for a week even two weeks at at a time would not show up. When we would complain we were told that it didnt matter you are supposed to read the books that were given to us, and that not having a teacher was not an excuse, but then they wondered why we would do badly on the exams. Why show up if all you want me to do is read and not be taught.

Teachers are incompetent and lazy. Most of the teachers did not even know how to pronounce the words in the book. And instead of doing hands on, all they would do if they showed up is read to you. Now the being lazy isnt all their fault because they get paid the same as someone working at mcdonalds and they do alot more, but they knew that when they started so why take the job and then make the students suffer because you are disgruntled.

There is no up-to-date equipment. Not all dental offices are updated but more than half are. We are using old outdated equipment, that puts us at a disadvantage when it is time to go out for our internships (externships) we have no idea of what is going on.

What this all boils down to is now Tidewater Tech has such a bad name, that no one will even take you as an internship or for a job when they hear that, this is the school you graduated from. There are bright students that come from this school but they have been ill equipped to work in the real world. Tidewater Tech doesnt come close to giving you what you need to make it once you graduate. And you better have medical insurance because if you are hurt at your internship, Tidewater Tech will not cover you even though you are still a student at their school. And since you are not an employee at your internship site they have no obligation to cover you. You should be proud once you graduate and if thats what you are looking for Tidewater Tech is not the school for you. The most you will get from them is a bill and a whole lot of embarrassment when you try to find a job. (Unless you get lucky)!
