They are trying to get me to pay a debt which I did not create. They want $1,855.22 to settle the bill

I have received a notice of collection on a debt which I did not create, from the lending company they alledgedly say I owe. They do not have my correct name for the account they want to collect. I have obtained all my credit reports & none of them dating back to 1989, have the account name or number which they say I owe. I have called Missouri Attorney General to investigate this law firm & their tactics. They have made an offer to me to settle, this debt. They asked me to send them $1,855.22 to pay the alledged account. I think they are trying to scam people, & from reports that I have read from other people making complaints, this is their objective. When the Attorney General from my home state, gets in touch with me & advises me on what to do, I will take the action they recommend. These kinds of company's need to be stopped, & I for one will do whatever it takes to see them put out of business.
