Countrywide screw-up

Well, a year ago March 3rd, my wife and I bought a home for $72,000.

My wife was to be the buyer, and my mother was to be the co-signer.

At the closing, Countrywide lawyers were running 30 to 45 minutes late.

They handed them the paperwork for them to sign not giving them time to read anything that was in front of them... So they signed, so they could make up on the lost time sitting there waiting for them to show up.
So, when we got our first mortgage payment, it came to our new address, but with my mothers name on it... Not my wifes.

To shorten this story up a bit, we looked through the papers that were signed, and noticed that they had my mother as the buyer, and my wife as nothing.
My mother is on Social Security making just $400.00 a month (the mortgage is $830.00 a month).

Yet Countrywide has it down as her making $2187.50.
No bank in their right mind would give her a mortgage on just $400.00 a month income.

How can Countrywide get away with this?
