These people are pretty bold

First I have to say I am glad I found this site. Everyone has a quite an experience with this company and I have learned so much from you all. Our very recent encounter with Asset on a credit card defaulted just about 8 years ago. My husband says he did not get a credit card in that was however the same year he was divorced. This debt if done by his exwife was not brought up in the divorce to pay, considering he got screwed paying absoultely every thing else. We disputed the credit card on his credit when we saw it was there, and they updated it to a $620.00 charge off.

Since then the item has come off of his credit for being over 7 years. We don't know if the EX did this or not, or if someone else could have done it, we don't know, but we don't feel we should have to pay it if they can't prove it is his, which we are in the process of sending the validation request to this company. They are now trying to collect like $1500.00.

So we are getting ready to do some financial business and I thought we are screwed if they throw this back on his credit. So in reading all of your comments I decided to send certified letters to all reporting agencies along with the letter " It is a pleasure to welcome you as a new customer". I insisted with them that we have not applied for credit, signed no contracts or agreements and insisted that if any attempt is made by this company to add a new account or apply any derogatory accounts to my report. I refered back to the old credit card which would be the one where they may alter account numbers, dates, etc. I don't know if it will help, but at lease I have proof that I sent to them, and so they should have a heads up on it.

It will be interesting to see how this battle goes. I am looking forward to them not being able to send me the documention of proof of the debt and taking that to court, which I am sure they will do. Here in St. Charles county they have already filed 30 suits this year. If anyone is taken to court my best advice is to go a fight it, when you don't go it is an automatic default judgement against you.
