$50.00 extra "holding" charges on my credit card from mapco

Earlier this morning I stopped to get $8.00 worth of gas at my local Mapco, and later in the day found out they not only charged me for my $8.00... But an extra $50.00 on my account that was not to expire for 2 days!

Now, consider this. What would happen should I only have $70.00 in my account for bills so I could only get $8.00 in gas. If that extra $50.00 was put on hold. Bills would bounce from my bank account and I'd get charged over-draft fees.

How can Mapco be allowed to randomly take fifty bucks from my account for two days? I authorized the $8.00 gas purchase... Not the random fifty bucks they stole from me. Are they trying to temporarily show false profits?

So I called the local Mapco corporate office to get the fifty dollar "mystery" charge removed and given back to me, mainly since I never authorized them to take it anyway.

I was lied to and told that it's an issue with my bank and to contact them.

Wrong, buddy.

I work at the bank, and that's a big load of BS.

The bank doesn't randomly charge people fifty dollars in the Name of Mapco... Mapco charges fifty dollars in the Name of Mapco.

And no, banks are not authorized to randomly remove a pending charge from someone's account... The institution that made the charge has to remove it.

How is this legal?!?!
