Fraudulent overdraft fees

On Monday, January 15th. I noticed that we had a total of 9 charges that would overdraft our account so I proceeded to deposit just enough to cover the charges to keep me in the positive. The very next day I checked my account again and National City charged me all of the overdraft fees anyway. They manipulated and moved charges around so that they could tell me that it was all legitimate.
When I called their 1-800 number to try to correct the situation I was told that everything was perfectly legit. That their was absolutely nothing that could be done and that what they did was perfectly legal. What they suggested was that I stop using my debit card. I should not have to stop using my card to avoid being ripped off by the company that issued it. They also told me that they take out the largest charges first and in the very next breath he told me that the charges are taken out in the order they come in.
I do not understand how this practice can be legal.By this Friday my account will be negative $700.00 when my husband's direct deposit comes in making his paycheck a whopping $300.00. How are we suppossed to support ourselves a 4 children on that for the next 2 weeks?
